Tide Observations

TIDE OBSERVATIONS

Tide observations are checking and predicting how the sea level changes over the course of the day. To do this, we use a tide gauge.

EQUIPMENT

To measure the tide, we use the Valeport TideMaster tide gauge. A small device that accurately records the height of the water, and also collects some meteorological data using a ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensor.

WHY DO WE NEED TO MEASURE THE TIDE?

It’s all to get the most accurate and precise results from our surveys. Accounting for the tide, we get as close to the real values of the measurements we take as possible.
